Name:- Avalon to Somerton Start:- Avalon Marshes Visitor Centre Distance:- 35.1 miles Heading South from the Avalon visitor centre, through Shapwick and down Pedwell Hill, across the A361 and down Nythe road and round the foot of High Ham (there is an unmapped option to go over High Ham Hill) and follow the route to Somerton. A picnic lunch was taken as all shops are closed on a Sunday. Returning through Barton St David and Baltonsborough and then through the southern outskirts of Glastonbury. Name:- Winscombe to Failand Start:- Winscombe Rec car park Distance:- 39 miles Starting at Winscombe, via Brinsea to Backwell, along railway path to Long Ashton. There's an uphill section through Ashton Court park and then an undulating course via Abbotts Leigh and Lower Failand to join the B3128 following the ridge down to the outskirts of Nailsea and West End; back to Winscombe along Strawberry Line. Route 7L
Name:- Avalon Marshes to the Drawing Room, Butleigh Start:- Avalon Marshes Visitor Centre Distance:- 36 miles The ride starts at the Avalon Marshes Visitor Centre and takes a flatish route through Godney and West Pennard to Butleigh where lunch can be taken at The Drawing Room. Name:- Winscombe to Lynda's Loaf Start:- Winscombe Rec car park Distance:- 40 miles It's uphill at the start, but via Shipham it's really not too bad and everyone was comfortable with it last time. Nice ride down the Mendips and back via Wells, the Levels, maybe a posh tea in Wedmore, and the Strawberry Line. gpx file:-

Route 9L
Name:- Rocky Mountain café Start:- Sharpham Road Playing Fields, Cheddar Distance:- 39 miles Rocky Mountain café via Dinder and returning through Croscombe. Meet in Cheddar 10:30 at Sharpham Road Playing fields (has parking - note this is by the tennis/rugby clubs and is not the reservoir car park...). It's 39 miles from Cheddar, passing through Wells, along the cycle path to Dulcote, then climbing small lanes from Dinder up to the café. Back down a steepish hill to Croscombe to cross the river Sheppey, we continue up and down to North Wootton and the levels before a final gradiential fling from Theale to Cold Nose ridge and back to Cheddar via Blackford. A little under 2500ft ascent with great views in good weather. gpx file:-

Name:- Avalon 8 Start:- Avalon Marshes Visitor Centre Distance:- 46 miles Figure of 8 ride from the Avalon Visitor Centre, 26 mile loop returning through Glastonbury for coffee and then along the railway path through the Reserves. For those wanting a little further add a trip along the Poldens returning past River Bridge and Burtle for a further 15 miles. gpx file:-

Name:- Cross over to South of the Poldens Start:- Cross Distance:- 45 miles Starts at Cross opposite the house with the many topiary yew trees in its garden BS26 2EG (unrestricted marked on-road parking area). Route is a crossover figure of 8 via Weare, Blackford, Huntspill, Puriton, Bawdrip, Chedzoy, Sutton Mallet, Chilton Polden, Southwick, Rooksbridge and Loxton. The route can be shortened to around 38 miles by short-circuiting along the Polden ridge from Woolavington to Chilton Polden. gpx. file:- |
